Belfast Canvas is an ongoing project between DaisyChain inc and Belfast City Arts Council. It involves commissioning local artists to paint junction boxes throughout the city in an attempt to liven up local areas.

I was very privileged to have been involved in the 2025 Junction Box Upskilling Workshop and was assigned a Junction Box on Upper Crescent in Belfast. My design was inspired by the thriving coffee scene we have in Belfast at the minute. It seems every week there’s a new trendy coffee shop opening and I wanted to create something that reflected that.

I often work in grids and limited colour palettes and this project was no different. I wanted it to be very bright and vibrant so that it would be easily spotted on the street. I used a variety of different techniques to create this including spray paint, stencils, brushes and posca pens.
